Bruce Allen Discusses Uniforms Some More

The last time Bruce Allen was asked about the Redskins uniforms, he was unable to finish his answers to any of the questions. Yesterday, Allen was a guest on Redskins Nation with Larry Michael. The two talked about the snow (“Redskins weather,” Allen called it), the value of the Scouting Combine, getting read for free agency, and more, and you can see all of that in the video here.

But Allen also got a second chance to talk about the rumors of an offseason uniform change, and Larry Michael — unlike Steve Czaban — actually let him answer. Here’s how it went (italics and boldface added by me):

“Well, first of all,” Allen began, “I’m a traditionalist. I’m very proud of the Redskins uniform, and I’m very proud of our helmet.”

He continued, “I’m talking to Coach Shanahan about some ideas that we have of utilizing our colors that we’re very proud of. But other than that, we’re gonna stick to our historic base. I loved when the Redskins had those throwback games over the last few years, whether it’s the arrow or the feather or the R. Y’know, just watching it on tape from afar, you’re like, Oh, gosh, I remember–“

“You like this helmet, though,” Michael said, referring to the current Redskins helmet.

“I do like this helmet,” Allen acknowledged.

Michael asked, “Why do you like this helmet so much?”

“I was there when it was being designed,” Allen said. “There’s a lot of pride in the Redskins emblem.” And that much is beyond dispute.

There you have it, though: no changes to the uniforms, although it certainly sounds like the throwbacks might make another appearance at some point.

The interview will also re-air on Redskins Nation tomorrow.
